Meal Preparation

For those seniors who live independently in their own homes, preparing food can become time and energy consuming and often seniors neglect to eat properly because they forget to prepare their meals. Homemaker & Companion service providers also assist with the preparation of meals and can provide as much or as little help in meal preparation as each senior needs and works to create a customized service plan for each senior to make sure that they are getting exactly the service they need.

Light Housekeeping

Think of it like having an assistant: all the tasks that a senior isn’t able to take on anymore will now be the work of the homemaker. Some seniors might still be able to do a lot of the housework, while others might find that once-easy tasks like laundry, dog-walking, gardening, and grocery shopping have become too time-consuming, tiring or stressful to take on. If a senior is expressing that they’re overwhelmed by the amount of work there is to do around the house, consider hiring a homemaker to take on one or more of the following responsibilities

Homemaking

Meal preparation, light duty cleaning such as sweeping or mopping, laundry, making beds, dishes, taking out the garbage and many more helpful tasks to help improve quality of life!

Laundry
Laundry is one of those chores that just has to get done. Whether you do a load every day or once every few weeks, doing laundry is an important ritual that makes sure you are able to look and feel your best.

Bed Making
Use fitted bottom sheets so that the sheet has few wrinkles in it. Wrinkles add extra pressure to the person’s skin and may cause bedsores. If you can, try to make the bed when the person is normally out of bed (e.g., taking a bath, sitting in a chair). Try to avoid extra efforts to get the person out of bed so that you can change it. The more natural the effort, the less trouble for everyone.

Medication Reminder (Only if patient or family request this service)
Remembering what medications to take, when, and how many can be challenging as people age. Sometimes this is because of memory loss. Sometimes it’s as simple as organizing an ever-increasing number of medications. Whatever the reason, mixing up medications is dangerous and could even be deadly. Even remembering to use a plastic pillbox with dividers or a medication reminder app can be challenging for some seniors.

Meal Prep

Meal prep ensures that caregivers are consuming balanced, nutritious meals on a regular basis. Consider any health conditions your elderly clients may have, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or swallowing difficulties. Adapt their meals, accordingly, focusing on low-sodium options, whole grains, lean proteins, and soft or pureed foods when needed.
